Rumor Has It...

Dating relationships are a hot topic among the kids at English school. It's a reflection of a culture where everyone needs to have someone, even if it's fairly shallow, and not necessarily founded on much of anything. That being the case, it's strange to have people who are single. But sometimes the dating situation at English school rivaled even the most dramatic of Desperate Housewives episodes.

Before R Teacher left almost two months ago, the school whirled with stories of her walking home with T Teacher (highly suspicious, not withstanding that they live in the same apartment building). They also had been seen eating out and they often arrived at work at the same time. To top it off, they both would say when asked "Of course we're dating!". So when R Teacher left to go to Seoul, there was a lot of concern for T Teacher and everyone was all ears on Monday when the youngest of the kindergarten class asked him what would happen now that R Teacher was gone.

The school reeled in shock as the class left for break. Instead of the classic broken heart everyone expected, the kindergarten class reported that T Teacher wasn't heartbroken at all, but was actually dating the new teacher from America! The story quickly spread (at least in the second floor classes), and the thrill of the quick turnover kept the school buzzing for several days.

But before there was a chance for this news to settle, Jack from early elem whispered to Abby in 10 year-old class that Shayla Teacher from America denied ever being T Teacher's girlfriend, and that she was actually dating a member of BTS instead. Abby wasn't sure what to believe, but she went on to tell her class anyways, and it soon became the general suspicion that maybe T Teacher and Shayla Teacher weren't dating after all.

So of course, the next class asked Shayla Teacher who she was dating. She responded that she was actually dating a member of BTS, and the students failed to hide their disbelief. But no matter how skeptical they were, she would always respond "Why couldn't I be dating a member of BTS?" and then continue on with the lesson as if there was nothing the least bit absurd about it.

The problem was, there was really no good argument against it. It was regularly agreed that Shayla Teacher was pretty, though perhaps a little boring, and maybe kpop idols liked the weird blue/grey color of her eyes? So word got around that Shayla Teacher was dating KSJ from BTS, and soon the youngest little was again asking T Teacher about his dating life.

T Teacher's tale was as short as it was tragic. Apparently he had never officially been Shayla Teacher's boyfriend, but before they could start dating KSJ asked her out first. It was a classic example of a ill-fated love triangle. How could a poor school teacher, no matter how sweet or good looking, dream of beating a man who's catchphrase was "world wide handsome" and with millions of fans across the globe who agreed?

It was a definite loss, and everyone knew it. So it was no surprise when news came that T Teacher would soon be leaving for a new school. Some whispered that he was leaving because of a broken heart. Others said that Shayla Teacher knew he was leaving all along, which was the real reason she was dating KSJ instead. (This last opinion was especially common with the girls, as T Teacher was generally regarded as good-natured and very handsome.)

But Ted from the oldest class shook his head at all of that and stated with full authority that no one was dating anyone, and it was all a good joke. But no one paid him any attention, generally agreeing it was too boring a conclusion to be true.

So was any of it true? Well with T Teacher leaving, and KSJ not being available for interviews, it all was left to Shayla Teacher to clarify. And all she did was just smile and say "Is there a reason I can't date KSJ?" then direct everyone back to their books. So the kids whispered among themselves, and eventually the story faded as newer things came to life, and the tale came to a quiet end.
